The world is profoundly hurting because of the spread of HIV and AIDS. In the United States, it is now often seen as a manageable disease, rather than the pandemic of 20 years ago.
But the crisis posed by HIV and AIDS is not over. Its geographic center has shifted to the third world, especially to people of color, and especially to women. AIDS has come to settle most harshly upon the poor.
The poor in Africa do not have access to the miraculous drug therapies available in the United States. Basic santiation measures available there are not stopping the spread of AIDS, and may actually be spreading it.
People are living with HIV and AIDS in Hollywood, as everywhere else in America. But millions more lives are affected and endangered throughout the world, where medicines are not readily avialable, where governments are in denial, where social custom, susperstitions and prejudices prevent compassionate people from speaking out and stepping up to help.
The world is not forgotten. Hollywood remembers the suffering of the world, and draws attention to both the challenge and the hope of a cure.
Please join us on Sunday, December 2 to remember, pray and bring light to the world around us.
